On May 6, a two-day workshop titled “Digital Radio Perspective in Armenia” kicked off in Yerevan. The event was organized by the Ministry of High-Tech Industry of the Republic of Armenia, the Television and Radio Broadcasting Network of Armenia CJSC, and the international organization WorldDAB.
The workshop was opened with remarks by Gevorg Meliksetyan, Deputy Minister of High-Tech Industry, and Narek Adamyan, General Director of the Television and Radio Broadcasting Network of Armenia CJSC.
In his speech, Gevorg Meliksetyan emphasized the importance of organizing such a workshop, highlighting that in a dynamic and rapidly changing world where technologies evolve at an unprecedented pace, such platforms enable the formation of a new-quality environment for radio broadcasting. According to him, this workshop could serve as a foundation for elevating Armenia’s radio broadcasting system to a new level, steadily advancing it toward the digital age.
Narek Adamyan noted that the idea of organizing this workshop had been under discussion for about a year, and today it has become a reality, creating an important platform for cooperation and exchange of experience. He then presented the current state of the radio broadcasting sector in Armenia, the existing challenges, and potential development paths, emphasizing the vital importance of transitioning to digital broadcasting as the basis for modernization and sustainable development of the sector.
Invited speakers shared leading international practices in the field of digital radio.
Lindsay Cornell, Chair of the WorldDAB Technical Committee and Principal Systems Architect at BBC Digital, provided a detailed presentation on the technical specifications of the DAB+ technology and discussed the potential for implementing the Automatic Safety Alert (ASA) system.
Will Jackson, Communications Manager at WorldDAB, outlined the digital radio deployment process, illustrating different network models and referencing international implementation experiences.
Alvina Abgaryan, a representative of the Republican Telecommunication Center SNCO, also delivered a professional address, focusing on the regional GE-06 Plan and the challenges related to frequency management specific to Armenia.
The workshop brought together representatives of state agencies, public and private radio companies, and industry-specific organizations.
The event featured active Q&A sessions and professional discussions.
