About the Project

Purpose of the Project

The purpose of implementing the new lighting system of the Yerevan TV Tower is to modernize the external illumination of the structure and bring it into compliance with contemporary technical and operational requirements.

The lighting system installed approximately 15 years ago no longer ensured stable and efficient operation over time, which became the main prerequisite for launching the project.

Design and Preparatory Phase

During the preparatory phase, work was carried out to identify the necessity of modernizing the TV tower’s lighting system and to clarify the objectives of the project, in order to define solutions capable of meeting modern technical and operational requirements.

At the same time, international experience and contemporary technological solutions were studied with the aim of developing a system that would meet both technical and artistic requirements.

Based on the above and in compliance with the requirements of current legislation, a tender was announced for the implementation of the comprehensive modernization project of the TV tower’s lighting system.

The tender process was conducted in two stages.

As a result of the tender, Termoprotect LLC was declared the winner, and a corresponding contract was signed with the company.

Implementation Phase

Following the completion of the tender process and the signing of the contract, the implementation phase of the TV tower lighting modernization project commenced.

During this phase, installation, integration, and configuration works of the lighting system were carried out, ensuring compliance with the predefined requirements, the architectural features of the structure, and safe operating conditions.

Composition of the Lighting System

The TV tower lighting system includes:

  • 486 media luminaires integrated into a unified control system,

  • 15,166 lighting pixels forming the dynamic media surface of the TV tower,

  • 6 high-power next-generation dynamic lasers.

All components of the system operate synchronously and are controlled via a centralized intelligent system, ensuring precise management of lighting content and scenarios.

Installation of Luminaires

The media luminaires are installed along the entire height of the TV tower:

  • from 0.000 meters

  • up to a height of 312 meters.

This vertical arrangement enables the creation of a cohesive lighting composition along the full height of the structure, ensuring the recognizability of the TV tower from long distances and various viewing points.

LED Media Screen

At a height of 139.8 meters, an LED media screen equipped with specially developed media pixels has been installed.

Technical specifications of the screen:

  • number of pixels: 13,482,

  • screen height: over 33 meters,

  • diameter: approximately 12 meters.

Thanks to the high pixel density and compact arrangement, it is possible to display complex graphics, textual information, dynamic animations, and visual scenarios with varying levels of detail.

The media screen is fully integrated into the TV tower’s lighting system and serves as one of its key visual focal points.

Laser System

The TV tower is equipped with a custom-designed dynamic laser system installed at two different height levels to create a spatial lighting effect.

Laser system specifications:

  • quantity: 6,

  • power of each laser: 60 W,

  • type: next-generation lasers with advanced beam control technologies.

These laser solutions represent powerful technologies used in architectural and media lighting, enabling the creation of precisely controlled beams, dynamic interaction with media content, and distinctive lighting compositions in the city’s skyline.

Integrated Engineering Media Solution

The TV tower lighting system represents a custom-engineered media solution in which each element - from an individual pixel to a laser beam - is integrated into a single, unified intelligent ecosystem.

Testing and Calibration

Upon completion of implementation, the lighting system underwent a testing and calibration phase.

Functional tests, scenario verifications, and system stress testing were carried out to assess operational stability under prolonged and high-load conditions.

The conducted tests and adjustments confirmed the system’s readiness for operation.

Final Result

As a result of the multi-phase work carried out, the Yerevan TV Tower has achieved a qualitatively new visual and functional level. The implemented lighting system has transformed the external perception of the tower, turning it into a modern media and urban landmark.

The new system enables the generation of more than 2,000 color shades, the creation of diverse and flexible lighting scenarios in response to state, cultural, and public events, and ensures a dynamic and expressive visual presence in the city’s nighttime environment.
